Figure Sculpture: Thursday 6:00-8:30pm
Date: January 30 - March 6, 2025
Time: 6:00 - 8:30pm
Location: At my Madison studio
Have you ever wanted to learn how to sculpt the figure? Join me in my studio-atelier—the only of its kind in the state of Wisconsin—for a course that will focus on the skills and techniques of figure sculpture. For the beginner student, this class will concentrate on basic figure sculpture principles using existing sculptures and casts in order to develop good foundational skills and best practices. By developing form sense by sculpting features and parts of the body (mouth, eye, hand, etc.) you will learn how to confidently manage the materials and tools of sculpting in clay, read and translate form with a sculptor’s eye, and understand proportions, measurements, and scale. For the more advanced students, you will focus on the techniques and principles of the clay sketch (bozzetto). You will continue to develop your ability to work in clay as well as reading and translating sculptural form in the round.
A 25lb bag of clay and sculpture modeling tools for use in class will be provided. This class meets once a week, either on Thursday evening or Saturday morning. Please ensure you register for the section of your choice.
We will meet at my studio-atelier in Emerson East. Spaces are limited so sign up soon!
Please note that class fees are non-refundable one week prior to the first class. A $20 non-refundable registration/re-stock fee will be charged for cancellations prior to this date.
